Birmingham Ghost Signs

Ghosts signs are painted signs preserved on the façade of a building. They were usually painted directly onto the brickwork and were used for advertising businesses or products, predominantly between the 1890’s to 1960’s.

Many of these signs (also known as ‘facing ads’, ‘brickads’ and ‘faded ads’) adorn buildings in areas of Birmingham such as the Jewellery Quarter in the form of vintage factory signs.

These faded, peeling signs with their vintage typography serve as a reminder of past occupants and forgotten eras.
